Social Events

Join some good company for a day out.  SOAG Members and their friends are all welcome.

The social side of SOAG is something which has developed in recent years. The aim is to provide a not-too-energetic programme of activity and visits to enable members who are not part of the committee to meet  and get to know committee members in an informal, social setting. You do not have to be a member of SOAG to join our visits, and they are a good way of getting to know us and what we do before deciding you join. You will find us a friendly and welcoming group.

Lancashire Office of the Land Registry

Assemble at the Land Registry, Lytham Road, Warton, at 2.00 pm for a 2.30  a guided tour of the Land Registry. Enjoy an interesting behind-the-scenes look at the body responsible for the recording and registering land in the UK, so buyers and sellers of property to have reliable information about land ownership.

We will see the work they do, and the processes used, from hand recording and early maps, through to modern computerised mapping and records. A light buffet will be provided. Subject to weather and circumstances, it may also be possible to look around the environmentally landscaped grounds.

There is no charge for this visit. Transport arrangements are your own, but parking spaces can be allotted on request. The visit will take approximately two hours, not including (if available), the tour of the grounds.

NEW DATE TO BE ADVISED

Twin Visit - Marton Mere and "Solaris"

Own transport arrangements.
Meet at 1.45 pm at the Lawson’s Road entrance to Marton Mere. The walk will set off at 2.00pm and involves about an hour and a half of steady walking. We will be guided by their most experienced Warden, and expect to see a host of butterflies, dragonflies, baby birds, and carpets of wild flowers. The walking is not arduous, but will need sensible walking shoes.

After the walk, we will travel in our own transport to the Solaris Project on Blackpool’s promenade.  Housed in the old Harrowside Solarium, and fronted by the two wind turbines, Solaris generates more electricity than it will use from the turbines and solar cells on the roof.  See all the latest energy efficient building developments—rainwater is collected to flush toilets, room lights only come on when people are using the rooms. There are exhibitions to see, and a café for refreshments.

In the event of really inclement weather, we would skip the visit to the Mere, and meet at Solaris at 3.30pm

There is no charge for this visit, but as parking spaces at Solaris are limited, please ring Terry Dalton on 01253 728318. He is liaising with Blackpool, and may be able to reserve parking spaces for those with cars.

Wednesday 2nd November
